Archie’s Spring Camps: Some Staff Favourites!
After another hugely successful set of holiday camps in Battersea Park draws to a close, please keep reading to hear about some of the activities the staff working on our Spring camps loved getting involved with. We’ve got a super busy summer planned, with events ranging from our first forrays into residential camps in the New Forest and our 5 week takeover at The Point at Polzeath, to our usual London-based summer spectaculars - do get in touch if any, or all of these interest you!
Harry: The Fruit (and Veg) Olympics
Imagine the greatest sporting spectacle in the world, although rather than representing your country in Paris this year, you represent your choice of fruit, in the middle of Battersea Park - somewhat of a fall from grace, you’d be wrong for assuming. The premise of the ‘games’ is simple, teams are created under the ‘flag’ of a fruit before working collaboratively to complete a range of challenges and games.
This week’s competition culminated in a real piece de resistance, if you will, with the ultimate fruit long jump. Picture seven different competitors, ranging from watermelons and butternut squashes to kiwis and potatoes, pitted against each other in the ultimate fruit-flinging-catapulting competition. In a moment of scientific breakthrough (we cover all the bases on our camps!) we discovered that the heaviest fruit (the watermelon) won’t always make for the best ‘flinger’.
Will : The Bottle Rocket Extravaganza
The rules are simple: three teams. Three bottle rockets. 20 minutes to decorate the bottle rocket before watching the chaos unfold.
This week, the aptly named ‘Shooting Stars’ just pipped ‘Fireflame’ to claiming the best decorated prize, although they were comfortably beaten in the rocket launching competition by the (unsurprisingly) girl-heavy team, named ‘Sparkly Unicorns Unite’. Quite simply, the intensity and focus that the decoration requires, quickly replaced by the sheer excitement of watching the bottles getting launched via a bike pump, combined with the dilemma of how much water to fill the bottle with to ensure maximum launching ability makes for this to be a truly exhilarating activity.
Freya: The Chicken Heptathlon
There’s quite a strong Olympic theme coming into the camps already, but what can we say - we’re just excited for the Summer!
Now the chicken olympics may be one of the most bizarre and wide-ranging events held during our holiday camps; first, slightly peculiar rubberised mini-chickens are distributed to all the children. Secondly, obviously, these chickens have to be named, with puns highly recommended. Next, the children’s impressions of chickens are perfect and tested, before the real competition begins. With events ranging from the chicken triple jump, chicken golf and a tricky hide-and-seek variant, the chicken games is truly the ultimate blend of competition and sillines, which ensures that serious fun is had for all ages!
Archie: Archie’s Easter Egg Extravaganza
You can’t have an Easter Camp without the ultimate Easter Egg Hunt, can you?! This year, we were blessed with glorious sunshine and a total abundance of brilliant hiding spots for the Easter Bunny to place their chocolatey loot.
This is, obviously, just a small and slightly random insight to the smallest handful of games that we get up to during our holiday camps, and some that our staff are enormous fans of. With London-based holiday camps taking place intermittently throughout the summer holidays as well as exciting new ventures in Polzeath and the New Forest happening over the summer, there are plenty of chances and spaces for children. Please do get in touch.
