What to expect from Archie’s at Easter:
It honestly feels like eons since we’ve last had the joy of venturing into Battersea Park for our holiday camp extravaganzas, and what better to celebrate than with a fresh blog!
So whether you’re a seasoned veteran, familiar to what we offer at Archie’s, or completely new to what we do, stick around to find everything you need to know about our Easter Camps - through the guise of some Frequently Asked Questions!
What sort of activities do you get up to?
Ah! The million-dollar question! We try to ensure each day of camp is focused around a couple of our key pillars. Breadth, inclusivity and enjoyment. We know, better than anyone, that most 8 year old boys would be happy with a patch of grass and a football, and whilst we’re completely partial to a quick game of footy, we feel that our camps are about so much more than that. They’re a chance to get outside, explore and experience nature, try new things and make new friends - so that’s why we ensure each day is packed with a wide variety of activities. Things ranging from den building, lions in the woods, whilst there will always be Arts ‘n’ Crafts, featuring Loom Bands, and, if we’re very lucky, some expert Face Painting from our very own Freya. Not to mention our after lunch phenomena is always filled to the brim with larger scale games - things such as the Fruit Olympics, ChallenJ, Chicken Heptathlons and much, much more. Of course, over the Easter break we’ll infuse lots of our activities with Easter related egg-cellence (unavoidable, sorry!).
Again, we’re all about inclusivity and want each child to know they have a voice and a say in all that goes on - so even the tightest scheduled day can become fluid!
What does the day look like?
The Archie’s team arrive at 9:00 ready to set up our for the day, with the camp starting at 9.30. When you sign up, you’ll be given the location of our meeting point, with members of the Archie’s team ready to welcome you and your child(ren)!
We tend to kick things off with some lighthearted ‘getting to know you’ style games before stopping for a midmorning snack. Games and activities flow until lunch, where we head to a quiet spot near the Pear Tree Cafe to enjoy the excitement of packed lunch. Conveniently, this puts us close to the wonderful playground, which we often frequent on our way back to base. The afternoon, as detailed above, tends to be a wider, large scale game - with all sorts of prizes and treats to be won. We always finish the day with a mini prize giving (of sorts), just to recognise the brilliant characters and moments from the day!
What makes Archie’s so great?
Well, obviously we’re slightly biased! Fundamentally, we think that each day of our camps offer the perfect blend of being outside, enjoying the fresh air and far from any screens. Partner this up with the chance to try a whole range of fun games, many of our own creation, with a whole bunch of like-minded and similarly aged children and you have a surefire recipe for a brilliant day of camps.
One of my particular highlights, too, is the chance to explore some of the wilderness and allow the ‘little explorer’ in all of us to come out. Now I know that Battersea Park doesn’t quite compare the plains of the Serengeti, but no matter where you are, creating dens and camps in the woodlands and tearing around playing raucous games of IT, and simply, just being a child, is exactly what the holidays are all about!
What about the weather?
We like to think we have almost everything under control at Archie’s, but, understandably so, the weather is totally beyond our remit. In previous years, we’ve struck pretty lucky with the weather - but knowing Britain in Spring, our luck may well change.
We tend to base ourselves and ‘make camp’ in the shrubbery-come-bushes of Battersea Park, making use of tarpaulins to protect any clothes or possessions that don’t weather water well. Additionally, we’re firm believers in braving (almost) anything that Mother Nature may throw at us - after all - a little rain can’t hurt anyone!
Of course, if we are thrown a natural curveball, like thunder, lightning and the like - then we’ll make a decision about finding shelter, or even cancelling the day (and offering a refund). Naturally, we don’t want children having a miserable time! Fortunately, this has never happened before - long may it continue!
Hopefully this offers you a small summation of all we get up to. If this sounds like something that your child would love, please do sign up for a day (or more) of our Easter Camps - here
